本次英语节分：1、英语基本功——书写大赛；2、英语卡片、名片设计大赛；3、英语小报秀；4、单词记忆大赛；5、英语对话朗读大赛；6、英语“我学我秀”大比拼等活动。为期19天的英语节，日前已降下帷幕。在英语节里，活动始终围绕着Happy English,happy life！（快乐英语，快乐生活）这一主题，每天早晨、中午都能听到校园广播播送的英语歌曲或歌谣；常常看到英语小使者用英语向师生问好，他（她）们的言行，带动了全体师生在英语节中用英语相互打招呼。一时间，英语成了校园时尚语言，使许多老教师、不识英语的老师也时常念上几句：“Good morning!”“Thank you！”……
我校将一如既往地开展好每学期一次的英语节活动，重视英语教学，把英语环境的营造推向一个新的高潮！

The celebration of the new year is the oldest of all holidays. It was first observed in ancient Babylon about 4000 years ago. In the years around 2000 BC, the Babylonian New Year began with the first New Moon (actually the first visible cresent) after the Vernal Equinox (first day of spring). The beginning of spring is a logical time to start a new year. After all, it is the season of rebirth, of planting new crops, and of blossoming. January 1, on the other hand, has no astronomical nor agricultural significance. It is purely arbitrary. The Babylonian new year celebration lasted for eleven days. Each day had its own particular mode of celebration, but it is safe to say that modern New Year’s Eve festivities pale in comparison. The Romans continued to observe the new year in late March, but their calendar was continually tampered with by various emperors so that the calendar soon became out of synchronization with the sun. In order to set the calendar right, the Roman senate, in 153 BC, declared January 1 to be the beginning of the new year. But tampering continued until Julius Caesar, in 46 BC, established what has come to be known as the Julian Calendar. It again established January 1 as the new year. But in order to synchronize the calendar with the sun, Caesar had to let the previous year drag on for 445 days. THE CHURCH’S VIEW OF NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS Although in the first centuries AD the Romans continued celebrating the new year, the early Catholic Church condemned the festivities as paganism. But as Christianity became more widespread, the early church began having its own religious observances concurrently with many of the pagan celebrations, and New Year’s Day was no different. A doe had lost one of her eyes, and could not see anyone approaching her from one side.
In order to avoid any danger, she always ate on a high cliff near the sea, and looked at the land with her good eye when she was eating.
By this means she could see whenever the hunters approached her on land.
But one hunter found out that she was blind in one eye. He rowed a boat under the cliff, and shot her from the sea.
